why DVD and not blue ray?

With blue ray players gaining in popularity people may be finding themselves in a position between choosing between a standard DVD(digital video disc) player and a blue ray player. So why should you choose DVD over blue ray? Let’s look at some of the reasons why DVD might be the better choice for you.

Selection. You have more titles to choose from when you choose to use DVD. Many of the older movies and television shows are just released on the digital video disc format. If you rely on just blue ray, you will be missing out on many selections. It is just easier to find box sets of your favorite television shows in digital video disc format compared to blue ray. If you have no problem with a limited selection of videos to choose from, by all means choose blue ray.

Another reason to select DVD over blue ray is cost. From the players to the disc, blue ray simply costs more. You can get a few digital video discs for the cost of one blue ray disc. That means you can have 3 DVD movies for the price of one blue ray movie. Blue ray players can cost many times the price of a digital video disc player. The digital video disc format is simply the more cost effective solution.

If you want to record shows and movies, DVD lets you do it much cheaper than you could with blue ray. As with the discs that contain movies and television shows, the blank discs are cheaper also. You can build a better personal library of videos of you choose to go with the digital video disc format over blue ray. Blue ray may be able to compete with the digital video disc format when the price comes down and the selection is expanded, until that day, digital video disc is the way to go.
